The 2012 Election

Why it's important for faculty

The quality of your life – both professionally and personally – is directly affected by how you vote in this 2012 election. There is a close, inseparable connection between political involvement and collective bargaining. You cannot have one without the other, especially because Hawaii legislators determine funding for University of Hawaii programs as well as salaries and benefits for faculty.

If we don’t support or vote for candidates who understand the challenges of faculty and the value of public higher education, and if we don’t hold those in office accountable for their decisions, this gives those in office license to make decisions without our input. It’s imperative that University of Hawaii faculty pay careful attention to what’s happening in Congress and in our legislature.
